Interactive Art in the Park allows artists, musicians, and dancers to come together in the park to create an original work of art. Having an open area for people to meet encourages interaction with each other. This interaction not only gives artists a place to come to express themselves but also provides entertainment to other people visiting the park. This project is a compilation of music, art, and dance. The design relies on individual self-expression in which the subject matter is not planned. Individuals will come to a designated area of the park where they can sing, play an instrument, draw, paint, or dance.
Dancers are photographed with wifi cameras and the images are sent back to an editing booth. In the booth, a team of editors will use photoshop to cut out the images. The idea is to display the dancers on a foreground layer. These images can be transformed to have a silhouette or double exposure appearance. The images would be placed in symmetrical and asymmetrical patterns to add dimension, scale, and interest. The project relies heavily on Adobe Photoshop to crop and edit images for displaying against the other images. The background contains images that artists have drawn or painted. The images can be drawn on iPads or done traditionally using sketch pads or art easels. Once the artist is finished with the artwork, the images are sent to the editing booth using wifi or can be photographed and emailed.
Another area will be set up for musicians to play instruments and sing. Wifi microphones will record the sound and send the tracks to the editing booth where they will be added to the video. Programs like GarageBand could be used to combine all of the audio tracks. The first problem is trying to capture the sound without picking up background noises like buses, birds, people passing by, or even the wind blowing. The easiest solution for obtaining good sound quality would be to try to record the sound in an area that is sheltered as much as possible from the wind. Another thing that would help would be to have the music area located away from any walking paths or benches where people might pass by. Choosing good quality microphones and accessories would help to reduce background noise. Since setting up a full sound studio in the middle of the park would look unnatural and segregate the musicians from the rest of the area. Sounds and images will be captured and combined into one video performance that will be displayed on a screen for all people to enjoy. The video would be created by the editors using Adobe After Effects or Adobe Premiere video editing programs. Keeping video clips short will allow the editors to create small videos quickly for display. These small videos could be put on a shuffle feature to ensure that there is always something playing on the screen.
The use of good quality wifi cameras, microphones and iPads would be instrumental in capturing the necessary components of the project. Having an editing booth located on-site would eliminate the problem of equipment being stolen or vandalized. A projection box would be located in front of an area in which the performance would be shown. I am hoping that this project will have a positive impact on the artists as well as the viewers. The result would be a collaboration of creative people working together randomly. This project is interesting because it creates something new and different each time. It is a way to bring everyone together in one moment than can be inspiring and impactful.
