"My Duds" Your closet's future

Kimberly Moore

This project is a mobile application that explores the idea of altering consumer behavior and waste of textile goods. Research suggests that consumers contribute to 15 million tons of used textile waste each year within the US. (Sustainable Businesses). This mobile application sets out to minimize the impact of consumer waste, and at the same time assist the consumer in the organization of their virtual closet. It allows you to link to frequented retail stores, and log purchases to your virtual closet. You can set limits on your purchases, and allow notifications that will encourage you to donate an article of clothing, or to recycle once you have reached that specified limit. Connecting to local user-selected charities makes it easy to donate items, as well as for charities to connect and search for needed items.   This application assists in altering consumer textile waste by allowing you to organize your wardrobe, and to be mindful of your purchases. It additionally allows you to plan out your weekly wardrobe. By engaging in this organization, you become more aware of items currently in your wardrobe, and take a mindful approach of textile items being purchased as well as items being utilized within your wardrobe. If you find you’re not using them, recycle or donate!
