This project is a collection of character designs that were created for an indie side-scroller game. This game, entitled The Plague, and is based on the story of a traveler on a trek through a dangerous apocalyptic landscape accompanied by their four-legged companion, Milo. This project focuses on the design of several characters including the main character, their companion, and enemies that they face during the journey. In the first step of designing these characters, I outlined the narrative structure and determined how it will be implemented in-game. I also conducted research to help make design choices for the game environment and overall mood and tone for the story. I was heavily inspired by games created by the developer Playdead, such as Inside and Limbo, as well as films like Coraline. I began by establishing a design baseline to share with the game design team, and made iterative changes according to their feedback before settling on final character and environment designs. My goal is to inspire the game development team to create the game according to the vision that I am setting with my concept designs.
